What is CHIPS? Our vision is about creating a balanced ecosystem where both environmental sustainability and human well-being are prioritized. By ensuring clean resources, fair and equitable job opportunities, worker protections, and transparent corporate accountability, the goal is to build thriving communities that benefit from the economic opportunities created by chip manufacturing while also safeguarding their health and long-term prosperity.
Who Do We Serve? We serve workers in the manufacturing plants, local residents, vulnerable and marginalized groups, future generations, public institutions, and environmental and labor rights advocates. Our vision seeks to create a holistic system of growth and opportunity that benefits individuals, families, and entire communities, while prioritizing long-term environmental sustainability, economic equity, and worker protection. We focus on creating a sustainable, equitable, and healthy future for both workers and communities in areas impacted by chip manufacturing plants.
Why are we doing this work? We can push for better workplace safety standards, especially around reproductive and developmental toxins that disproportionately affect women and vulnerable workers. COJWJ can advocate for stronger regulatory frameworks for chip manufacturing plants to protect worker health and ensure that plants are held accountable to both environmental and health safety regulations. COJWJ can help workers organize to ensure their collective bargaining power, providing resources and advocacy for union formation without fear of retaliation. This would empower workers to secure better wages, benefits, and working conditions. We can advocate for stronger environmental safeguards, ensuring that chip plants adhere to or exceed environmental standards, particularly around the protection of downstream and downwind communities from pollution. COJWJ can push for regulations requiring chip manufacturers to implement the highest standards of workplace safety, particularly regarding exposure to toxic chemicals. COJWJ can advocate for strict enforcement of these standards and ensure that community members are protected from potential environmental and health risks.
